Hi all

Well, my Dakar's just passed its first ever MOT, but with the condition I sort out the rear light . It's ON and won't go off. On all my previous bikes the rear switch was adjustable, just peel back the gaiter, clean the contacts, adjust height as preferred. This bike has a switch the likes of which I've never seen before.

I've looked in the manual (well. on the disc containing the manual!) and there is only a piccy and instructions on how to replace it.

Any help gratefully received please.

Kirst (skint and not wanting to spend any more cash getting through the Liverpool tunnel when I can use the bike for free)

I've checked the whole techy questions section here and couldn't find owt, so I've just found the Chaingang website and printed off 9 PAGES (!!!) of stuff about the rear brake light switch :clap (full 9 pages only because it wouldn't just print the bits I needed!)

I'll give it a bit of a poking-at later after I've stripped the wallpaper off Henry's hall walls. :help God, I hate decorating!

Any info still gratefully received, though!

Hi, the rear brake light switch on my 2000 Dakar sticks in the 'off' position.
It's a silly little micro swich inboard of the lever and it get 'shitted up' (technical term) especially when you off road a little as I do. I give mine a spray before each MOT to make sure it comes on when the pedal is depressed.
It's difficult cos you can't see it but give it a blast with WD 40 or similar, reach 'round the inside of the frame (by the front spoket cover) and work the switch with your fingers a few times, its like a thin strip of spring steel and you'll hear it click as it switches.
Hope this helps, works for me.

Thanks, Onepot! Tarka came round and gave it a coat of looking-at. The rear bulb had blown one filament, luckily I had a spare bulb, and he WD40'd the switch, then hey presto it works again. Yay! :thumb

So a big thanks to TARKA - ta, mate, a bottle of something yummy will be in your palms tonight! :beerjug:
