I've heard the rear pads on the GS LC wear out around 6K for no particular reason. Has any owner of an RT LC experienced similar problems yet?

Yes replaced first set at 6K and second set down to 2mm at 11,800 (second set brembo). Same wear rate as previous 56 plate GS I had

Rear pads on my GS WC were changed at 11000 and was easy another 1500 miles left on them.

Had a recall for the Right Hand Switch Assembly in December, advised that rear brake Pads would need to be replaced!

Only done 4100 miles, sent an email to BMW to query was it not a warranty issue (reply below).

Dear Mr

Thank you for your online correspondence dated January 7, 2015. I am sorry to learn that the rear brake pads in your BMW R 1200 GS TE have been replaced. I can certainly appreciate your disappointment, especially as the bike is so new.

In response to your query, I can advise that wear and tear on brake pads is due to driver profile and it is not unusual for the wear to become apparent at this mileage. I acknowledge that you feel that this is unacceptable and I have recorded your feedback under the above case number, which will be used as part of our ongoing product auditing programme.

Thank you again for your email. Please be assured of my continued attention should you require any further assistance from me.

Yours sincerely
BMW UK

I would query them again as there is no shoes on that model. I have found that down trough the years service departments err on the side of caution ( and profit). I would retain your current pads and keep an eye on them after all their not that hard to check! Let us know how you get on. Jjh

"driver profile" Someone at BM headquarters must spend hours thinking up these responses:blast

I realised the front and back brakes are linked, never expected the rear to wear out that quick that's for sure.

Replaced with part No C34.21.8.554.424
