Just got the bike MOT'd, and I noticed that while the MOT geezer was testing the rear brake on the rolling road, he had to push a fair way down before the pads bit.
He passed it, but I didnt like it. Anyway today I decided to adjust it, there was a good 1/4 inch of play on the rod before it hit the piston, thus engaging the brake, a bit flappy IMO.
Now, the locknut had siezed on the rod, so I simply threaded an extra nut up, to make up the difference, and it was a perfect fit, I also adjusted the pedal end UP, as I always felt this was a bit low down.
It all seems fine to me, but my question is. Is this now too adjusted? I have set everything up very close, there is mm of play in the pedal, and the rod does not sit against the piston, there is just a teensy bit of play.
I like the front brakes tight, for minimal effort in an emergency, and i have kind of managed the same sort thing for the rear - shoud this be so, would the brake now be in danger of being too twitchy, and apt for accidental, and so dangerously unnecessary stopping?
I'm not sure, maybe there should be some slack and some delay at the back.
I rarely use the rear brake anyway, only in real emergencies, or as a "handbrake"
What do you lot think?
