Hi Guys, A couple of days ago the red brake fail and warning triangle lit up as I was going along, tried the front brake and all was good with the stopping power but when I stopped at a junction I couldn't hear the funny noise from the servo as I held the bike on the back brake. A couple of times I have worked the back brake fast and furious then turned ignition on and the fault had cleared and the servo started to work but only lasted for a few miles before fault returns. I have made sure the fluid level is ok, taken brakes off and pushed pistons in and held them in with G clamp but servo still doesn't work. Front brake and servo working great all the time, problem is only on the back brake.Any ideas that I can try or how big a hammer to hit it with would be great The bike is 2006 model.

Possibly the brushes are stuck/worn in the motor hence the random work don't work. Hitting it with a hammer in this case might actually work as it would bounce the brushes. A GS911 OR BMW diagnostics would show a low volt error if you can get access to one.
If I am right it is fixable if you have the required skills but it isn't a general user replaceable part. There is a good write up over on adventure rider, maybe here as well.

Try phoning Brian at mototech Ballinderry. He is a able to bypass abs unit which will give you normal braking.

With the earlier SERVO ABS:

The REAR ABS Servo circuit does NOT stay on when holding the bike on the rear brake only (2004 - 2007 models).

The FRONT one ONLY stays running when the brake lever is held.

I believe you are worrying for nothing. If you hold the bike on the rear brake for a few minutes you should feel an occasional kick through the rear brake pedal as the ABS pump intermittently boosts the pressure in the rear brake circuit. If it does this, your brakes are normal and nothing to worry about.

The warning triangle can appear for a multitude of reasons, typically low battery voltage, especially if you have kept the servo pump whizzing away at the traffic lights by holding the bike using the front brake.

Hit it with a hammer

Hi guys, I took the fuel tank off yesterday and gave the servo pump a few good smacks with a hammer and hey presto everything started to work for a while. gave it another few smacks and it started working again. kept turning ignition on and off over a period of time to make sure it was still working before I put the bike back together. went out this morning and all was good for around 20 miles and the old bitch packed up again. Front brake still working ok just back brake with no servo, with this in mind, I take it the pump has two motors. one for front and one for rear. I also take it the motor just needs the brushes cleaned properly. does anyone know where they are so I can try cleaning them?

Rear brake switch operating correctly?

Does the stop light illuminate when you depress the rear brake pedal??

Did you top up the reservoirs inside the servo unit itself, or just the reservoir on the handlebars/rear subframe?
