What on earth does the black rubber insert do in the rear brake reservoir.

It really screwed me up today when i was bleeding the back brake. With it in nothing seemed to happen. With it out all went smoothly. Its now put back together but not filled up.

By the way which Mityvac do i need to make this bleeding thing easier?

I hate it when people think it's clever to wade into someone so ill bite but FFS! :blast

Fluid goes UNDER the rubber, bleeding is a pain so get a big syringe and draw the fluid down to the calliper.

Unless this a piss take, sit on your thumbs until a Clymer or Haynes book of lies arrives! :censor:

Yep - as above the fluid goes under the rubber. The rubber is there to make an airtight flexible diaphragm over the fluid (brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air).

Try an 'ezebleed' or one of the similar devices for bleeding your brakes - basically a non return valve on the end of a piece of tube. I bought one last winter for when I changed my brake fluid - no faffing around with the bleed nipple - just pump fluid through and keep topping up the master cylinder.

As someone else would sy, "walk away from the bike NOW" and take it to your glorious dealer

The rear brakes on a GS are the easiest in the world to bleed. Using a mityvac or any other bleeding device just isn't needed and will complicate a very very simple task :D.

The rubber bellows is to keep the reservour air tight and sealed and with no air above the brake fluid it'll stay in perfect condition.
That why you remove it when bleeding, otherwise you have an air lock and can't bleed any fluid.

Maybe a good idea to put the tools down and step away from the bike :D
