Hi folks

Ive had my R1200gsa for about 5 weeks now and its ace the only
thing is the back brack seams to be a bit gut less if i just use the back
brake not much seams to happen it does stop but not as quick as my
old 1100gs did.Are they supposed to be like this or does mine need a bit
of adjustment?

Oh and it has ABS servo assisted.

Hi Septic, how's it going? Rear brake on all 1200's can be classed as weak  However i was quite pleased with the ADV footbrake as it seemed an improvement over the standard GS :nenau

Probably a good thing to ignore the rear brake as much as possible as the rear pad wear on 1200's is rapid (4-6000 miles for me) and thats with me almost never using the pedal (on road) with rare use off road.

yer not wrong but I got 4500 miles out of the rear TKC80 on my 1200GSA, and I have put another one on as I recently did some off-roading in Wales and liked the stability the TKC's gave. Overall I have to say I'm impressed at the tyres considering the off-road bias. Even in the wet on tarmac I liked them. And the front end wobble went once i had a new rear fitted and it was correctly balanced...

I use the back brake quite alot and even when you apply the front-brake there will be some back brake involvement with ABS fitted, and have to say the pads are lasting very well.

Bikes done 5650 miles now and just had its 6000 miles service, only fault thus far has been a new fog light switch as the old one wouldn't turn itself off.

With the rear brake on the 12 being linked to the front and tied in with the servos and ABS, I'm sure it's meant to be like this. I guess this an off road problem you're having then? If not I amost never use the rear brake on the road, and except for slow speed filtering or stop start traffic I cant think of a reason why you would use it, either alone or in conjunction with the front. Some folk say they use a bit of rear brake to tighten their line mid corner but I've never needed to try this on the road. You can get a bit more oomph by adjusting it but as I dont do much off road I didnt bother.

I adjusted mine using the lock nut at the back of the lever.

It is much much better now. :thumb
