I am a new GS owner. Bought a one year old 2005 1200 in apparently great nick. It has done done just over 4000km with very little off road. The rear damper unit has started to leak past the pre load adjuster shaft. Is this a common problem? During the start up test sequence it also gives a DWS caption with a graphic of a half empty cylinder (battery?). Is this related to the first problem. What does this mean seeing as there is no mention of this in the Owners Manual.

Seems like no one has had the damper problem. The local work shop has not seen a problem like this before and will replace it under warranty with only 4000km on the clock. The other caption turns out to be DWA (not DWS) and signifies that the alarm system internal battery is low.

Glad you're getting it fixed. I've not read about a single rear damper failure...
