I need to put a new rear disc on an 1150 with ABS. Manual tells me to check the ABS sensor gap with specialist BMW tool, is this really necessary or is it another BMW way to make money by getting people to take it to a main dealer?

Any thoughts greatfully recieved.

Are you talking about a brake disc
or abs ring ???
Never had a problem fitting new brake
disc's and I'd say if it was a new abs ring
your fitting aslong as it the same thickness
as old one there should be no problem :nenau

Feeler gauge? plasticine and a micrometer? The measurement between the sensor and the ABS ring should not change just because you replace a brake disc.

It depends on how the ABS ring is mounted as some mount on the discs & these can vary in thickness. The "special tool" is a feeler gauge that's part of the bike's toolkit.
