Hi Guys

I went to Norway recently with Yosi and some other guys. Norway is a great touring country but I lost two days because of the rear end bearings breaking on my 2002 ADV. BMW recovery was very good and put me up in a hotel and gave me a rent-a-car for the down time but when I called my dealer (Vines) they said that I would have to cover the expenses of the repair because the bike was no longer under warranty (Feb 04 it expired). Duncan Bell later called me back and left a message saying to send him the bill and he would try and get a refund from BMW for me. I was just wondering if anybody else in the club has experience any problems with the back bearings on an 2002 ADV.

I would appreciate some feed back.

Thanks

Which 'rear end bearings' - the final drive? If so, I just had BMW agree to pay 80% of the parts cost on my 68k mile Mar 2002 Adv. I needed a new rear drive (complete) plus a drive shaft - a total of about $1500 US...

Mike:)

PS The guy I dealt with at BMW (GB) Customer Service was James Collins - his direct number is 01344 480201. I've dealt with him several times in the past (continuing brake warping issues) and I've found him to be very reasonable.

Just an update on my rear end (on my ex GS1150Adv). At ~10K miles my rear swing arm and brake hose were replace under warrenty (both were rubbing together - factory recall) anyways the rear end had to be dismantled and re-assembled in a fairly major way to carry out swap, so you'd expect a check of all part on refit for play etc. Just after the fix I took the bike to spain, drove from Newcastle to Portsmouth /ferry to Santander and kicked about around the pico area, didnt get a great deal of riding in over the 2 weeks as the fuel cap snapped on 1st day and took a week to get a spare out of useless BMW ES, which I had to fit myself to add insult to injury. Return journey same as outbound, thoughly pissed with BM I took the bike for trade in on a new 950ktm, they (ex bmw dealer) spotted the rear wheel had 1/4" side play (it had felt squirrely but i'd put it down to riding with panniers and pillion). They took bike in without droppin offer price as it was still under warrenty and they being ex bm knew how to get it sorted via pukka BM dealer. I was happy to see back of it ....... so I never did know if they did just that or just punted it on with fooked rear end to a punter. It didnt hang around on the showroom floor for very long?
