Rear hugger / mud guard

Got a hugger fitted but wondered if the factory fitted mud guard thing that barely covers anything will actually stop any road crap being thrown up, or should I just stick to the hugger and put a mud flap below the number plate?
Seems to me that a lot of crap comes up the sides when the roads are wet, but seems stupid to put the panniers on just to stop it. Any advice welcome.

Cheers fellow Fazer rider, might see what I can do for the 1150, but thought the hugger would stop most of it, maybe it does but not going to remove it to find out, will play and see what I can do

Hi Snooky,

just done the following mod to my 1100, removed the rear stoneguard and fitted one of Reynos rear stainless mudflaps.

Polarbear has modified his 1150 , again by removing the stoneguard and adding an extended mudflap about a third longer than mine.

We were both out today running over some very messy roads and both bikes were much cleaner across the back end than the oher bikes that have the stoneguard in place.

Neither of us have huggers fitted.

My opinion is that the stoneguard causes extra turbulence around the rear of the bike.

Noddy, Looks like the easiest mod to me, time to get the tools out and obtain some aluminium, got some friends in the RAF so will do some bartering see what I can get hold of, if not will need to be the plastic option, but better than apying someone else for it.

I went to whs smiths and bought a black wallet file for 99p, cut it up and stuck it with some permenant double sided sticky tape (now that's expensive for tape, 2.45GBP for a small 4 by 5 inch piece which is plenty but it's 10.99 for a sellotape sized roll!

It works well and cost 3.50....ok it aint touratech or the like but it works well.....just another idea...
