To the esteemed collective......

I was just about to fire off an order for a rear rack, but was scratching around the garage and found this:

Its from the base of BBQ...and is the perfect size for my tipi....obviously need to work out just how to mount it, so the question is...

Is it a reasonable idea (get on with it) or disaster waiting to happen??

Not a esteemed member  but why not just strap the tipi on rather than have a permanent cage bolted on.would the cage just bend once you strap the tipi in it ?

does size matter?

I did look a that but it loks like quite a bulk on a relatively small area...

don't think the rack would bend as the weight would still be centred on the bike.....

Following repeated fustration at not being able to strap stuff safely to the standard rack, I've made a really nice rack for mine from 5/8" steel tube.

I made a fixture to do it, and so could knock out a few more for fellow GSers if there is interest. I'm just waiting on the results of 'dull chome' finishing.

I'll post a picture soon. (I design this sort of thing professionally, so it's a tidy peice of kit).

would be good to see - especially how you fit it...

I saw a vid (cant find it now) about some adventure riding bod who used one of those plastic kitchen chopping boards and bolted that on to the rear.
it seemed to give him loads of strapping on space
Didnt look that pretty without the gear on but just unbolted when he got home and cheap as.......
