Getting a strange squeeky/squelchy sound from the rear shock. It sounds like, but not saying it is, either:

1. The kind of noise a dry rubber shock mount would make.

or

2. The sound of a thick viscous fluid being passed through a small hole, ie the damping fluid in the shock.

I've used a silicon lubricating spray on the top and bottom shock mounts and played around with the damping adjuster on the shock but all to no avail.

Bike is a late 2004 1150 adventure, 8,500 miles.

I've done a pretty thorough search and found loads of info with regards to paralever bearings but it doesn't sound like a dry bearing kind of noise to me - and there is no play in the rear whell whatsoever.

Thoughts anyone :nenau

Paralever Bearings.

Hi Brewster,
I think you'll find it's the paralever bearings - that's the usual symtoms. I think their fitted without grease or over-tightened at the factory 'cos they seem to last forever once their changed:nenau.
I used to have a good guide from ADV forum showing how to change them easily without any of B-W's special tools. - I'll post a link once I find it again:confused:
It's a waste of time (I think so anyway!) trying to re-grease and/or adjust - by the time they start "creaking" their f----d:eek:
Mine sometimes only started making a noise/creak once the bike was warm - ie a bit of warmth in the bevel box??.

Cheers..................Grizzly:beer:

Yeah thanks Grizzly - got the details of that thread myself. The noise doesn't appear to be coming from the where the paralever bearings are though, seems more around the shock.

If it helps with the diagnosis the squeek / squelch is slightly more noticable if the rear of the bike is bounced with it in an off centre position, ie with the bike lent slightly to the left or right.

Thanks for your thoughts though.
