so my final drive got a groove by the oil seal and got a second hand one off Patzx12 on here, thank you so much pat!
had to get a new speed sensor as the size of the hole on the drive was different. the plug on the new sensor looks the same at first, but not the same and does not fit. even tried changing to the old connector but still no speed reading. its a 2006 GSA non ABS mondel

Any ideas?:aidan

What age is the FD?
They changed the internals on newer ones and they aren't compatible sensor wise with the old bikes. The ring inside is different or something like that and the software just isn't compatible leaving you with no speedo or abs. This may or may not be your problem.

Sounds like you need to find a way to fit your own speed sensor to the new FD. Makes sure clearance to the internal gear is the same.

If you have access to a multimeter it's fairly simple to test that the sensor is ok and sending a signal to the control unit, could save a lot of guessing. Connect the meter to the sensor and see if you have a resistance reading or at leased continuity. Then switch meter to volts, 0/12v, and easiest is start the bike, stick it in gear and watch the meter, should show a pulse. If both those tests are ok then may need programming so unfortunately dealer. If you have a wiring diagram, Haynes manual etc you could even test the whole circuit the same way all the way to the control unit.
Think Haynes have the resistance readings for the sensors but not sure. Hope that helps.

the new FD i think is from 2005 and the sensor hole is bigger that the old FD 2006. had to buy another sensor to fit the bigger hole. the new sensor plug does not fit, but tried to splice and still no speedo.
