After having that lovely Mr Wassell respray my bike i am now at the stage of reassembling the petrol tank.

Last time i did this i ended up with a smell of petrol in the garage that i think was caused by not rebuilding it correctly.

Any advice on making sure that the seals are in teh right place and it doesnt leak?

Many Thanks

Petrol Leak

Are you sure the leak wasn't from the quick release connectors on the petrol hoses? I believe it's better to replace the small O rings on those connectors when you refit the tank, they are available from any BMW dealer.
Have also sent you a PM
Cheers

Thanks for that Ray, All the connectors are new ones.

Is there a method of ensure that the o rings are seated correctly?

Are they new or the old ones? if old make sure they have dried back to the right size/shape and then i just covered them with Vasoline, same with new but they will be the right size, then fasten down even :thumb2

looking foward to seeing the result :thumb

Like what he says above but I use Fuchs Renolit Red Rubber grease

Basically you smear (with a light coat) the trough where the O ring seats (after checking it will still go in neatly and isn't tooo big) then the ring and then the flange It means the grease holds the ring in the trough and the grease on the flange allows movement without sticking to the rubber!

Have Fun

cheers gents.....i may have some vaseline in the house:augie:augie
