Hi,
I have a 2001 650gs and fuel consumption is not as good as most people seem to reckon for theirs..I've heard that there may have been new mapping software available and wondered if anyone out there knows about this and how I would tell if my bike has been fitted with it?

The only way you can properly find out is to take it to a BMW Dealer and plug it into the BMW Diagnostic system (which will cost you as it's out of warranty). They don't keep records of upgrades as such.

As a guide if it idles at around 2,000rpm with no throttle while moving, (say slowly in first gear), then settles to around 1500 - 1600 rpm when stopped, then you've had an upgrade.

If it idles at about 1500 - 1600 while moving then you're probably still on the old v9.1
