recall

does anybody know anything about a recall on some 1150 models gearboxes?, just looked at the adventure riders website, and it appears there is a gearbox problem on certain new models.

Confused by this...

...I've checked my Adventure's VIN number against their list & mine is later (ie it starts ZH50***). So, in theory, I've got a duff gearbox. Thing is, mine was delivered in Mar 02. Do UK bikes have a different numbering system do you think?

MikeO:confused:

my vin starts at ZJ 11***, does the 'J' have any significance, because it's not mentioned on the no's affected?

Mine starts ZJ... as well. Is ZJ after ZH and so subject to recall or can I carry on getting wet and cold?

Hmmmmmm? My VIN No. is ZH52334. Am I in or out? Delivered May '02

Just been advised on ADVrider that I'm a lucky member of the 'Recal Club' :( Would you believe it, I was on the BMW stand at the NEC today sorting out my two niggles with my Adventure....Oh well, call to Rainbow tomorrow.

By the way, my niggles are as follows should anyone be suffering same or just interested:

i) Crackling/Crazing on my engine casing, swingarm and final drive. BMW will replace ALL this under warranty and say I have been misinformed that BMW don't consider this to be a 'fault'. Can you believe that? £9000 and not a fault! This began after just 2 weeks and has 'spread'

ii) Surging. Dealer CAN sort it. Or so they say. We'll see.

My 02 1150 with OD gearbox is a ZJ vin,, I will wait to see if I get a recall note, but I may ring SPC to be sure.
Nothing mentioned to me when I was in there last friday.

SLM

My VIN (02 Adventure) falls after the 'at-risk' number in AdvRider, so spoke to Paul Davies at SLM (as mine is an import ). He had been notified of all specific VIN numbers of official UK bikes, but had tried to contact BMW re full international listing. Of course all the BMW people were at the NEC, so he was getting nowhere. He reckons he'll get a full list next week and can check my bike and the other imports they have supplied.
Import owners - check it out!

the crazing that you are getting has affected me also, but the reason for it on my was the petrol leak from the failed pipe clamps from the tank to the engine, --- it may be the same on yours

Cheers
