First time contributor but a biker for over 30 years. I've owned an 800GS since July last year, took it to Misano, Italy from Ireland just after it's first service and the headlamp bolts went adrift - confidence inspiring.
Today, 12/5/09, I noticed my trousers were wet, it wasn't raining and I'm not incontinent but the bike was - anti-freeze everywhere. Lucky I was at home and not riding at speed.
Spoke to Graham at BMW Customer Service who informed me that the problem was the subject of a recall to dealers for rectification along with other faults:-

0000270900 Threaded fasteners for sprocket carriers
0013170000 BMS-KP Engine cutout update
0061290000 Routing of cable for front ABS speed sensor
0017010000 Replacement cooling hoses

Don't rely on BMW be proactive before disaster strikes. KTMs have never looked so good

Yeah - I had the headlamp bolt thing too, although I caught mine before they went completely AWOL. All the other issues are well known, but once sorted should put the bike back onto top form ... Have you checked the ring antenna recall?

Having spent a long and happy time on a 950 Adv 'S' I know what you mean though ...

morale of the story for any lurkers: join ukgser sooner rather than later as all the things you listed have been well documented on the forum since the middle of last year :D

didn't you know there is a secret society of turquoise, right trouser legged, 800 GS riders

Speak to one of our Order Of The Grand Wizards - they know all things GS related.

BTW Masons roll up their trouser leg, 800GS owners trouser legs just shrink.....

Oh, can i have some help please.....being new and everything, i have read with horror of the re calls, does anyone know if these have been put right by BMW at building stage now and these things don't happen to the 09 ones...last thing i need is for my bolts to drop off going down the M6..and i don't think girlies are aloud in the blue leg mason brigade

Cheers
Morticia
