I am moving house and have discovered I have to pay Pipex £58 to disconnect this line and then join up again at my new house, they won't waive the charge even if you sign on with them again so I am looking for a new supplier for my broadband connection. Who do you pay and are they any good? The market is teeming with services now and some recommendations would help me.

I'm with Telewest. It's just taken them 3 days to fix a failed router. Half of Enfield must have been off-line too!

I have used Vispa for ISDN dialup over the past 18 months. Excellent service from real humans although the service has been flaky in the past - but that was down to BT's FRIACO infrastructure in Bristol rather than Vispa.

Now I've migrated to a Vispa ADSL connection and I am very happy. Again the service I got was from real humans in an office rather than a huge call centre. I got to speak to the same person every time I called them. All in all I am very pleased (although I've only been live for two weeks!)

www.adslguide.org allows you to checkout broadband ISPs, compare 12 month running costs and look at speed/service/reliability.

i've been with nildram for 18 months +. usually do well on ADSL Guide chart for what that's worth.

6 months ago would have recommended them without reservation. now their whole admin/support infrastructure is FUBAR. actual connection still good for me though.

NTL here....the 512kbs jobbie, about 25 notes a month i think it costs me.....

No complaints, two service outages in 18 months but both back up within 48 hours at most and bearing in mind all the chaps out there digging up roads etc I can't complain about that.

They're also pretty good on 'phone support.........freephone and real people, have seemed quite knowleadgeable when ive called them

I've been very tempted in their 1mb service but TBh i don't need it at the moment..........stuff comes down the pipe quick enough for me and i've got used to leaving diet kazaa on overnight and when i'm at work of i want some, ahem, files, and it plays my MMORPG's very nicely .

Could'nt ever go back to dial ups *shudders*....quite seriously, if i was moving house it would actually be one of the things i'd have to have ticked on my list before i would look at an area.....how sad is that!!!!!!!

We have NTL cable here too - 512k too. Shared between 5 PCs via a wireless router. We are all quite happy. Fiver a month each for bband. Blinding, pukka, as my housemate from Kent would say.

I hate going back "home" to Abergavenny where I have to use a 56k dial-up.
