SWMBO is heading down that London from oop norf to the paralympic closing ceremony Sunday night. Can any of you locals recommend a tube stop on the periphery with easy ( and free :nenau ) parking where she could then get the choob to and from Stratford easy peasy lemon squeezy ?

I thought (just cos I stumbled upon it while looking for a bike) that Ruislip Manor may be a decent option (tube stop just round the corner from HGB Honda Motorcycles) and it's on the metropolitan tube line (change at Liverpool Street for Stratford) but there's nowt like local knowledge :thumb2

She's originally from Kent so doesn't need any innoculations etc :D

Any suggestions ?

My suggestion would be Newberry Park on the Central Line (therefore direct tube to Stratford). It is right on the North Circular / A12 so thereafter direct access to the M25.

Large carpark (don't know if it is free at weekends).

I would suggest Ebbsfleet, it is one stop from Stratford and is just off the A2 and close to Dartford Tunnel.

It is literally a 10 min journey!

Thanks for all the replies :clap

Change of plan now (not like a woman to change her mind :blast ) but now we're both going down early tomorrow on the train and staying til Monday.:JB The replies have been bookmarked for future reference, however. :beerjug:

We're staying near Limehouse - anyone been to Ian McKellen's gastro pub for grub ? (The grapes I think from memory - will check anon) Any good ? I nipped in for a very swift pint earlier in the year and the beer was good. Grub looks pricey for pub fayre (to a scotsman anyway!), but sounds v pleasant.

This Thames Festival sounds like a cracker - any other "must sees" on a flying visit and/or anyone suggest where genuine tickets may be had for what's left of the paralympics ? I've been checking the main official website off and on thro this week, but nothing has been available except excel arena evening tickets earlier in the week and brands hatch cycling for yesterday.:D Long shot I know but I'd quite like to see one event or wander around the olympic park while in the vicinity.

The Grapes is good :thumb2

The Narrow, not far away is good, too.

The Tai Pan Chinese (home of the UKGser Christmas party) is excellent value and close to Limehouse DLR station. Chose the buffet menu.

Il Bordello is reasonable value as well, in Wapping, so not a million miles away.

Take the Riverboat bus either west and go on the London Eye, or maybe better still east to Greenwich. The Naval museum is good. Walk up the hill to the observatory (also worth seeing) for maybe the best (free) view over London.

For tickets ...

... you'll need to keep checking the site because they aren't on (legal) sale anywhere else :(

Nice one - top tips on the grub front.

I had a wander along part of the Thames Path, took a footbridge under the river to Cutty Sark, then round Greenwich in Jan or Feb - and took in a piano and violin lunch time recital type thing in the Naval church which I stumbled upon. Made me feel amost cultured for a half hour or so.

Naval museum v good. Also there was a free photo gallery of moon and stars photographs at the observatory at the top of the hill. Cracking views over the smoke as you say - looked great at dusk.

We're off to Borough Market tomorrow, PM me if you want an alcohol fuelled guided tour by two motorcycle enthusiasts and their long suffering wives:blast:D:beerjug:

How long has the tube gone to Ebbsfleet?.
