Hi, I'm installing a John gemi chip. I already have the bike decatted. What air filter would you recommend?

Yep, the original paper filter if you want the bike to last.

K&N gives you a couple of additional horsepower and less frequent maintenance, but K&N and similars let in too much fine dirt and wear out your pistons/rings/bores. Mate of mine had his Honda engine requiring overhaul (low compression) around 60K when switched to K&N.

The solution would be to use an oiled pre-filter put on the intake tube, but then you'll lose the benefit of those couple of horsepower K&N would give.

A dynoed R1100R, 2-3 HP more vs stock paper filter. The R1100GS has pretty much the same air filter setup.

Have you a before and after graph ? BMW would be very interested in such a percentage gain for so little effort. The inlet tube and airbox offers more restriction than the air filter.

I know this will seem as heresy to some but HT were clear, a standard air filter changed at same time as oil filter will be far better for your engine than a K&N which is either not oiled at all or as is usually the case, over oiled.

We all know the "inlet tube" is a cutting edge Ram Air orifice designed to over-pressure the airbox and yield lots of extra ooomph.

KN filters and there ilk are one of my pet hates.:mad:
Next is KN filters sitting in an engine bay with no ducting or heat shields to get cold air into it.
They do not look cool!!
The only way you can get more air into an engine with an air filter is a filter with bigger holes and bigger holes means bigger dirt gets through.
It ain't rocket science unless its on a rocket.
