Oh have changed micro filter tonight

I use a Billion 7800N

Had several Thomson routers and had trouble with the newer ones that O2 give away. They get too hot, Stability is suspect and the wireless always seems to go.

The billion is rock solid in comparison.

I'd ask plusnet for a new router. If that doesn't fix your problem then escalate the fault so that the line is checked out.

I have a Thomson router from O2 (via their Be* offshoot) and it performs well - now that the fault on the BT cable was fixed. Symptoms were similar to those you report. Be* were very good in calling out BT Openzone engineers to check the line but they passed it as "working". It wasn't until I reported a telephony fault as voice calls became impossible that a competent BT technician identified a damaged cable about 100m from my house.

I'm a big fan of Draytek kit myself, more business oriented and not that cheap, but it works really well and has lots of potentially useful features.

Is it the router or the modem (the latter only if you're on cable or Fibre)?

I'm on Plusnet fibre and they gave me a free BT modem into which I plug their free Netgear router into which I have plugged 4 ethernet devices plus about 6 or 7 wireless thingys.

As Wessie said - see if they'll give you another one, otherwise I've always found Netgear routers to be OK.

+1 I would ask for a new router, how long have you had it? My router with TalkTalk kept dropping its connection and only a reboot would get it to reconnect. They tried to get me to sign up for another 2years for a free router, I asked to be put through to their Cancellation department and told I didnt have to sign up they would just send me one. Arrived next morning.

Taking this line of approach though you may have to be prepared to get your migration code and go if they wont back down.

If you have been with them a few years and are a loyal customer they should replace it so you can continue using their service.

They give them out like sweets the rest of the time to new customers.

i have had 3 thomson routers from o2, each has had failed wireless, and each one was a bigger struggle to get the o2 support to send me a new one. this is with the o2 wireless box II. this is now obsolete, but there seems to be issues with the new ones as well. i think they're up to v4 now.

gave up and bought my own. not looked back.

contributing to this thread reminded me to try a couple of speed tweaks here.

sync gone up from 4.5kbps to 5.5kbps. now if it can remain stable, and it seems so at the moment :)

Just gone to infinity and found hh3 doesn't allow AirPlay.
Lots of features of hh3 that I didn't like so I plumited for an airport express.
It doesn't have as many features as other routers but took 2 mins to connect to the fibre modem and works fine. No good if you need more than 1 Ethernet. But as anything apple it worked out the box. Worth a look as you run iMac etc
