Before I start can I say that I know that paperless offices are virtually unachievable.

But what I'm trying to achieve is for my office to become virtually paperless by having the managers and department heads (5 in all) scan in their respective documents, provide summaries, but only pass electronic updates to me whilst allowing me the option of viewing scans of the originals if I have to.

So they need a faster scanner(s) than home office stuff but by the same token we don't deal on an industrial scale so a semi-pro or 'prosumer' model is probably what we are after but I don't know a thing about that level of machine.

We currently have 4 macs backing up onto a 1TB Time Capsule HD.

Thanks in advance guys.

Do you have to to the paper-digital shuffle Steve?

I guess if the paperwork they have to produce to scan is externally generated they do, but if it's internally generated surely it'd be better to work with the newest Adobe Pro which lets you make PDF forms that anyone (even those without Adobe) can fill in and return without it even gettng to the paper stage :nenau

PC Pro and PC shopper are your best bets for impartial scanner reviews BTW- you'll get an individual's opinion on one or two machines here but PC Pro etc do regular group tests that will provide the specs and opinions/ratings :)

It's externally generated mostly Bill, (i.e. admin manager opens all incoming mail, scans it, attaches security and distributes to relevant person) so if we are going to start scanning that stuff we might as well file & distribute our own stuff as part of it.

The important bit is that it's MAC Based - I can only see the Fujitsu S510M being suitable at the moment - just looking for alternatives. Pc based is obviously easier.

I thought that nearly all scanners that used the TWAIN drivers were compatible with Mac as well as PC....the TWAIN driver is software based rather than hardware so as long as the prog (office, adobe or whatever) uses a TWAIN driver, it'll work.

many non mac scanners will work with vuescan drivers.

i use them as the drivers supplied with my canon Lide scanner were a joke.
