Last year I organised an event to raise money for Help For Heroes - it was a biking event that a bunch of friends joined in and we have filled 6/7 of the H4H charity boxes. I am going down to the H4H office in April to hand the dosh over and a some of the others want to join in also.

I need to find a suitable meeting place as we are coming from all points of the compass. We are heading for a place called Downton which is south of Salisbury just off the A338.

Any idea where we could meet, somewhere to have a cuppa and a nosh before making out way to the H4H offices?

Thanks for your help:thumb

Mike,

If the weather is kind, on the road from Salisbury to Downton, there's a large lay-by on the right with plenty of parking and a half-decent burger van.

It's not easy to miss and is only a couple of miles from Downton.

I think I know the one you mean.

There's a biggish petrol station in Salisbury (Shell???) just before you head south, might that not be an easier place to find (less chance its not there on the day...)

I found this place in Downton itself.

Looks like an interesting place with a bit of history, anybody ever been there?

Smashing pub and food is good, the car park is round the back. Been there a few times with the Hashing crowd and though the place does get busy its actually fairly big inside. In fact in Downton again today though at the Wooden Spoon pub.

Yep lived there for 20 years. :D

The food in The White Horse is shite, don't bother! Can recommend The Bull which is 500 yards from the Help for Heros office, they do a bloody good roast 7 days a week for £3.95 !!! £6 or 7 on a sunday.

The burger van MikeP refers to is there from 8am- 4pm 7days a week.

Wooden Spoon was nice enough, small perhaps but food looked good enough. Disagree about food in The White Horse but I'm not phenomenally choosey. Whatever pub you visit Downton is a charming place.

Yes the Spoon is always good, can't fault it. Been a while since I've used the The White Horse maybe it's changed hands :nenau
