I currently have a heavyweight laptop a HP Probook which is used for work and personal use, but it's flipping heavy to cart around. My company has agreed for me to choose something that they will then source, unfortunately they haven't given me a budget but it's not open ended.
It can't be an Apple Mac though. We run Outlook 365 for mail and I have 6 different accounts inc a personal Gmail account. PowerPoint, Excell and other apps. I travel a lot and also use an iPad for presentations and reviewing documents which have been created on the PC. Basically the laptop is too heavy to cart around and we also use Dropbox which helps on the move and with the files using the iPad.
Presentations at client sites or seminars need provision for attachment to a larger monitor or projector.
I also want yo run Mapsource or Basecamp or Tyre which is difficult on the iPad. I use a mouse and also external disk so a couple of USB's are needed. Did think of a Surface Pro but not sure this will take the lugging around, also I'd like to be able carry it on the bike so an SSD would be preferred I imagine. Also thought about a flippable laptop for 1 to 1 presentations and touch screen may be useful. 13" screen max for weight and I use an external monitor in the office and at home which are VGA connectors.
I like the iPad but it's not going to suit my work needs and I like the ability to quickly view files and search for documents etc. I found laptops such as Dell XPS and HP Spectre. Any views and suggestions welcomed please and I'd like to keep the cost sensible if possible, I'm not a high power user but I like to keep all my email and files with me if possible. Quick boot up too please.
Thanks for the help Brian.
