As per heading. Travelling from the grim north (well, North Staffs). We had planned to use public transport if possible but this requires either (a) train from Crewe to Euston, tube from Euston to Paddington and Heathrow Express from Paddington to T5, or (b) drive to and park at Wolverhampton or Birmingham and get a coach from there to T5.

Both are likely to take an age and/or cost quite a lot and/or be a PITA. As such, driving (160 miles) and parking may be the simplest/best option.

Had a shuftie on Heathrow and park & go websites, but before we book, has anyone a better suggestion/cunning plan from local knowledge and/or experience re public transport or parking? :)

Iv used APH car parking every year for holidays for a while now never been a problem, cheap enough always £50 ish depending on time of year :)

When are you going & how much is park & go costing? I'm about 10 miles from T5 (Ickenham), cabs to/from Terminals 1-3 are £18 each way. I would think T5 would be about £20. (Need to check) I might have a space on my drive, depending on your dates. If that's cheaper & helps.

Rushy parked his car when he came down for the Olympic stuff in 2012, so he can vouch I won't nick it :D

Funny though it may seem, have you also looked at flying down/back to/from Heathrow? Factor in all the costs (parking, fuel, time, agro, keeping the Mrs happy, climate change :augie)

Thanks peeps. When I first posted, the initial quotes I got were all £100+

After a bit more investimagation, APH is £69.99, but booking via money saving expert gets an extra discount so 14 days parking (24 Sept to 8 Oct) is £61 with a free 10 minute shuttle bus.

Thanks for the kind offer Jon. The wife doesn't trust taxis to turn up anywhere and for a few quid more and being pretty close to the airport, that seems to be decision made.

Easyhotel is a decent option for £85 with free parking for the duration but it doesn't suit us this time.

Shuttle flight not an option really - would still need to park at local airport and it would involve another trip in one of those crazy metal tubes.

Just got to work out how to cope with 10 hours in one. First long haul for a looooooong time. I am not looking forward to it (big girl's blouse I know).
