bumped into a fellow GS rider yesterday, the little GS not the GSA,he was busy telling me all about his fully loaded all bells and whistles shiny little bike while feeling quite smug ,no doubt, showing me where the buttons would be on my switch gear for elec this and heated that, any how when the mrs could no longer stiffle her laughter she told him we'd just got the reliability option,f##k all fitted and f##k all to let us down, his fat little face was a picture, was this you?....

Nop, afraid not me:D

Sometimes some people forget that it's about riding.... the bike.

No not at all,I did my homework before parting with my cash, ordered the bike that suited me and not just the bike that was in stock ready to go,trouble is people get what they're given not what the need by dealers who play on resale value bollocks, you end up with a bike loaded with tat you don't need and afraid of riding the thing because each mile added knocks money off:augie

resale bollocks ? - I wonder if you will be quite so smug sitting there waiting for the phone to ring when all the secondhand buyers are viewing the fully loaded bikes ........

trade them in after two years for another, always shop around for best deal, don't want the type of riff raff that buy used around my gaff:comfort

Hmm. Having just taken delivery of a GSA with an almost full raid on the options list, I'm not sure I agree (but I wouldn't, would I?). Looking around online and at the dealerships prior to buying, the earliest models with ESA in particular seem to command a disproportionate premium over those without.

So your bike doesn't have a FPC, ring antenna or FD that seem to have been the recent "problem" areas?

I think the fpc was more a gs thing not a GSA fault,ra was updated, but fd's break even on mine:augie, what i don't want is a flat tyre or collapsed suspension due to faulty tech, leaving me stuck,if your going to get a puncture you,ll know before the comp tells you,and how often do you wish you could change you suspension while moving,i've a rough guide if i've got luggage i turn preload four times before leaving home,if i need more then i'll stop and turn it more, you could say you've got more options without esa than with, and the ice warning is a pain in the arse,it's winter i know it might be icy i don't need the distraction flashing, and don't get me started on fuel light at 50 miles left thats half a tank left on most bikes!

I suppose Elephantman also owns a car devoid of ABS,Traction Control, power steering, air con etc etc cos of course its just more shit to go wrong and doesn't fit his 'reliability option' theory ? :augie

My car doesn't have ABS, traction control, air conditioning or even a fuel light (nor is it meant to). Still, I swear to God the thing spends more time off the road than on it.

Those Austin 7s do have a few issues:comfort

I know. Bloody 1200 tyres. I've had one fail too - apparently not a warranty issue. They descried it as a 'puncture' or some such excuse.

When will they learn?

I'm going back to a CZ next time. Never had a so called 'puncture' on one of them.

Mr Badger, I know what you mean. I was in Morocco last month for 3 weeks with 3 of those high spec 1200.... The problems we had!!!!

Well, we were glad we brought lots of tools and spares... We spent at least 12 mins on the roadside repairing the things, completely holding up our trip! And it was one of thost high technologu 'bulb' things which caused the problem by failing, or appearing to fail!

We had to get a low tech 'file' out of the tool kit and buff up the contact before the bulb would work again, and the trip could continue.

So now looking for a low technology(reliable) alternative for this 'wire filament in a vacuum' technology. Suggestions welcome!

This alternative, will need of course to integrate seamlessly with the can-bus, ABS, GPS, MP3, Bike to Bike radio, Video Camera, ASC and computer I have fitted which all behaved faultlessly during the trip.
