Honda CX500, had it for years, never wore through the yokohama plastic tyres though.

The Honda dealer was Dugmores on the Bilston road. They are still there but lost the Honda franchise years ago. They are mainly a bicycle shop now with the occasional motorcycle repair. I've been using them for bike MOT's for the last 30 years!

John Gaskells place..Blackheath
Copes..Hagley road
Percy Tait's ..A45 outta Brum

Belle Vue Speedway Aces 1946

Bill Pitcher (2nd from right) used to run a shop in Rugby - now Nightingales.

Custom Kawasaki also had a branch in Stafford, where you could also find CHELLS (HONDA still there), there was also a Suzuki dealer two doors down which i dont recall the name of and one at the back of the Swan Hotel.

Motorcycle Mecca was the one in Mill Street @ the back of the Swan Hotel :beerjug: I'd forgot all about that shop til i read this post! Ranger Kawasaki used to be in Marston Road up by Chellys. :)

+1 for Motorcycle Mecca and Chells in Stafford (just celebrating 40years), also had Windmill Motorcycles at Broad Eye in Stafford ran by John who used to spanner for Dick Greasley when he raced sidecars and then was the bike mechanic for Police motorcycles (still does I think).

Also in Stafford was Phil Brights, Marston Road and Adderleys in Bridge Street, Stafford a Puch dealer (my first bike Puch Maxi at 16!!!!!!)

West Mids Bike Dealers

I remember Copes, they had the shop in King Street, Dudley, which I think went bust and re-opened as Streetbikes first showroom(now in Halesowen). Then there was Criterion Motorcycles by Top Church in Dudley, sold MZs and other obscure bikes. Are they now part of the Yamaha dealer in the old Streetbike/Copes showroom?
Also in Dudley was a little shop in Wolverhampton Street, near the dairy, called JT's if memory serves. I think the owners moved around the corner to what is now KEH Motorcycles, who just do repairs and sell a few old bikes.
Grays in Wolves, was that the one opposite the Mander Centre?
I bought a new Suzuki GP100 in 1982 from a dealer in Wolverhampton, in the shop which is now Europcar Hire, in Birmingham Road opposite the police station. I can't remember the shops name, don't think it was there long. Any ideas???????????:nenau
Roy Peplows, remember them well, thats where it all started for me with a TS50ER in 1981!:rob
I was surprised they went bump, always seemed very professional.
West Brom had a couple of dealers, one on the High Street near to the clock, the other one being a Kawasaki dealer on the ringroad the other side of the town centre. I think this was a branch of Streetbike before it shut???
Birmingham Motorcycles in Stirchley, I remember them, sold most of the Jap bikes and some classic imports from the USA , old Z1's and the like. B@stards ripped off a colleague went they went bust, he'd put his bike in their showroom as a commission sale and never saw the bike or his money again.
Mainline Breakers, were these the people just down the road from Peplows, also sold damaged repairables?
How about Ideal Garage in Bromford Lane, Brum? I think I'm right in saying this was the last big multi-franchise dealer in the City.
Nostalgia trip over, brain now drained, I'm off for a lie down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remembered names now, John Boden mechanic/owner of Windmill motorcycles and Kustom Kawasaki/Hednesford Kawasaki was run by Alan Gale.
