Sometime ago i managed to break my home PC , dont ask!
but i thought i would keep the old hard drive asthere was something on it i wanted to keep and plug it into my next machine in the spare slot and use it as a slave.
Only i have now brought a new machine that does not have the spare slot.
So, i do remember seeing some time ago a cabinet and transformer thingy you could put the HD t in and just plug via USB
can you still get these , and if so where

ta very much

:eek

If you only want to grab the info from the old HD, you can just plug it into the IDE ribbon cable on the slave plug and hang it loose inside the case....set up as a slave and powered, it'll be fine.....then if it looks a bit dodgy or interupts the air flow, you can remove it afterwards.

THAT's assuming it is an IDE drive, and the one in the new PC isn'r a sata, which has a different cable and won't be useable.

If the latter's the case, what's your MOBO.....it's very likely to have an IDE socket and drive chips still, even if it's not used.

If it hasn't, (and in answer to your actual question ;) ) Maplins do a 3.5 inch hard drive box for about £15.....

Fanum

thanks for that , a quick look inside ,( its a litte dell dimension 51510c) dont even see a riband connector, but good tip anyway. i will need to have a tansformer as well

thanks

You'll find that your new dell machine won't have a ribbon cable it's on a newer format serial ATA which is a smaller cable as Fanum says.
