Just wondering if anyone has converted an ABS bike to non ABS.
What would be required.
The plumbing is no problem.
Can BMW "switch off" the ABS in the CPU ?

Hi Pat
Would black tape over the abs light be as effective and consideraby cheaper.
(You know what they say "The cheapest thing on a bmw is the owner")

a friend of mine has got problems with his ABS unit and has been quoed silly money to fix it. As he feels he has never had it kicked in, has years of experience without it etc. he feels that he may as well keep it off rther than fork out for fixing it...

there's one reason for removing it !

The '04/'05 bikes with servos came with the ABS. If the servo packs up, it's approx £1000 to replace the unit etc. If that ever happens to mine, I'll get Mototech to re-plumb the brakes back to 'normal' ones and happily do without the ABS.

I have removed quite a few defective ABS units. As you say, the plumbing is no problem, but because the brake switches are routed through the ABS ECU, they have to be replaced with non ABS switches & re-wired. No real problem, just takes a bit of time.
Removing the ABS relay stops the light show.
Brian.
