Oh Fountain of Knowledge -

I'm keen to remove the alarm/immobiliser from my bike.

It's a Spyball Patriot on a late 1100

Pls, does anyone have experience of this, or does anyone have installation instructions that I can reverse?

Cheers,

Paul G

I removed a Datatool from mine to replace it with another make. It was a dead easy job just take your time and work out what each wire does.

The answer!

Hi, these are the instructions I followed on the weekend to remove my Spyball (courtesy of Delboy).....worked a treat....just be methodical in dealing with the mass of wires coming out the main Spyball loom....

1, Unwrap and trace all the wiring from the alarm unit. There will be wires going to an ignition feed, permanent 12V feed, earth/chassis, indicators and most important wires going to the imobiliser circuits. These are usually the starter motor and fuel pump.

2, disconnect or cut the wires out of the bike wiring loom. If the alarm has been fitted to a decent standard the alarm wires will be spliced into the bikes wiring loom and can be cut and re-insulated. This is done by stripping an inch of insulation off without cutting the wire itself. The black alarm wire is then wrapped around the original wire and soldered. The joint is then covered in insulating tape.

3, The imobilser circuits need to be cut and the bikes wires rejoined. For instance the starter relay is a Black/Yellow wire to operate the relay. The wires will have been cut and the imobiliser wires normally black, will be contected to each end. Cut the black wire and rejoin the Black/Yellow wires together (assuming they were the wires/circuit used).

4, Remove all the alarm boxes etc, sit back have a beer and never worry your alarm packing up again.

Any problems then drop me a line.

This is what we're up against

The bundles of wiring on the left are the spyball wires.

As you can see, the two parts of the green wire are just visible, so reconnecting that's easy, but every other wire belonging to the spyball seems to be black..... not helpful!

Most of the spyball wires will just join onto the originals with only the insulation stripped. Cut these (spyball) wires and re-insulate.

You will left with much fewer wires where the originals have been cut and the spyball inserted For these you match up the colour coding on the original wire (not forgeting the thin colour strip)cut out the spyball wires and re-join the original then re-insulate.

Waheyyyy!!!

Done it and she runs!

Massive thanks to Mike Wright, Decompressing, Dellboy and Richard J. :beerjug:

Once again the forum saves me a packet and teaches me a thing or two along the way.

There was a moment when I had bl**dy wires everywhere , I was wondering just how I was going to locate a bike electrician during the course of today, what that would cost, I was thinking how stupid this was just ahead of a bank holiday (and possibly the first sunshine in 13 years), and I was saying to myself "you've gone in over your frikkin' head again you moron..." :(

But following the instructions, slowly and carefully, it actually all made good sense.

Someone somewhere mentioned wiring the red LED alarm light on the dash to an independent battery - that's a good idea, and I'm far happier with that than the crappy alarm/immobiliser solution.

So, here's to a non-immobilised bike.

Anyone interested in an excellent second hand Spyball system, please see For Sale and Wanted....:augie
