Simple question, but I think I know the answer already!!

In 2006, I bought a BMW alarm, which I fitted to my GS and had BMW plug it into the computer to tell the bike it had an alarm.

I am now changing to a 1200RT, which does not have an alarm. Can I simply unplug the alarm so I can move it to the RT or do I have to get BMW to uninstall it from the GS and likewise when I fit it to the RT?

I have phoned two diferent BMW dealers who have given differing answers!!!!

One says that I can unplug the alarm and the bike will work fine. Others say that I need to unplug the alarm and insert a blanking plug onto the end of the wiring loom as that plug would have been removed when the alarm was fitted!!! This plug has a resistor in at and some sort of connection that makes a circuit and does not confuse the bikes computer!!!

When I mentioned this plug to one of the technicians, he said that this was rubbish and that the connector is simply a blank cap to keep the dirt out!

The problem I have is that the BMW bike tech who fitted the alarm is on hols and the nearest BMW agent is 80 miles away!

I have tried to buy this plug but no one can tell me the part number.

As you can understand, I don't want to unplug the alarm in case that causes an issue with the bike computer. Any suggestions?

When my alarm was fitted by the supplying dealer I was given the blanking plug and told it would have to be replaced if the alarm was removed.
Looking at the plug there are 2 metal contacts inside which are making a circuit so the second dealer you spoke to may be correct. If it is any help I can post a couple of pictures of the cap indicating which 2 contacts you need to join when removing the alarm.

Thanks for the reply. I spoke to a 3rd dealer before reading your reply and he hedged his bets a bit, saying that the plug does have connectors but the bike will still work without it!!!!

I took the bull by the horns and unplugged the alarm!! No issues at all, the bike starts and there are no warning lights or anything on the dash!!

Result!
