Hi all, having just had a brush with a Fiat after car driver didn't eventually take that left turn he indicated for, I, thankfully having came off better than him, have quite unsightly yet undented marking in the R/H cylinder head. Any help and tips as to removing these unsightly marks would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance. Think might need wee bit more than elbow grease.

Good to hear that you are OK Drifter, feck the Fiat and the cylinder head.

It's going to be pretty difficult for folks to recommend a course of action without an idea of the marking the CH suffered. Post a pic or two and see where we go from there. :thumb2

Thanks for the prompt reply and glad to know I'm not the only one lurking around in here at this time, Pics I will get sorted tomorrow, good idea, the power of the digital image, ha.

Don't try and remove it, get a little teeny sticker of a fiat and one of a GS, then stick them on the side of the bike with a '1' next to the GS pic and a '0' next to the fiat :D

I's not damage, it's character ;)

Pics from my brush with the Fiat

OK guys, here's the pics from my brush with the Fiat. As you will see pic 4, if they attach the way I hope they will has most of the plastic rubbed off, but the head itself may need a wee bit of TLC, to remove the "character" from it, thanks again in advance.:beerjug:

I would try a solvent of some sort, perhaps T-Cut or at worst petrol (I use it to get tar off the swing arm and exhaust).

Do a little at a time to make sure you're not causing any more damage.

Is the CH damaged or just marked?

Hi, used slightly milder abrasive cream than T-Cut and took most of markings off, CH damaged, but I guess no worse than approx 1mm deep scrapes, as it's been said, should be looking at character as opposed to damage, maybe best just picking up second hand CH or cover, make me look like real GS'er !

Engine bars looking good for next purchase, ha!

That doesn't look too bad at all Drifter. I wouldn't mind seeing what way the Fiat ended up. :augie

If you can pick up a cover at handy money then fair enough, but I would leave it as it is until whatever time you are changing the bike, then fit one. But then I'm not really into bike cleaning and all that mularkey.

Yeah, think you're right Aiden, leave it for now, going to try and leave now for Hein Gericke's to get the bluetooth kit fitted to my helmet that I was going to get last night before my spill, ha, hopefully get there this time.

Just while you're here, where's the best place to get comms sorted, can't seem to get anywhere around that know enough about it all, thinking of Autocom or the like, for bike to bike, bought 2 x Motorola radios of E-bay last night. Sad but even Autocom, "so-called" dealers staff know enough to keep their feet out of their dinner.

Want to link up not only hard wire to bike but also link satnav etc and preferably through Nolan bluetooth helmet kit, thanks again in advance.

Personally I would go for an Autocom Drifter. I have one fitted on my 1150 and it is a great job.

Have a wee look on their website for more info on which unit would suit you best.

I'm in Loughbrickland if you are nearby and want to drop in. PM me or see my mobile number in my avatar. :thumb2

Aiden thanks for that, gives me a good steer and will visit their website tonight. Just ordered set of engine bars, ( I know, it's like closing the barn door) off Nippy Normans and a couple of other wee bits as wee speak.

Cheers again, may just bell you if I'm up that way, would like to see the kit installed.

Glad that you are OK and that the bike is rideable, but how did you damage the right side against a vehicle that was going to turn left?

It was dead easy as the car that had indicated to turn left, decided at the lastminute.com NOT too and as I had already had (rightly or wrongly) committed to leave my exit and turn right across his bow, we touched, but it twas a slight graze, I was lucky enough not to have fallen off and make an even bigger arse of myslef in front of a busy road with loads of teatime traffic. Hope this clarifies the picture for you.

The covers are not all that much to replace and it is very easy to do.... It is good there is no hole in them as the wall thickness is very thin. Good you are all right too.

There's a lesson there

. . . the car that had indicated to turn left, decided at the lastminute.com NOT too and as I had already had (rightly or wrongly) committed to leave my exit and turn right across his bow. . . .

Glad ur in 1 piece,

but never, ever trust an indicator. Wait till the wheels turn (or till you see the whites of the driver's eyes)

A former police motorcyclist once said to me, "The only thing a flashing indicator tells you is that the bulb is working."
