good eve all , just mooching round looking at post regards remus , thinking of replacing oem exhaust for a remus , but a bit concerned about post regards melting plates / indicators , is this exhaust melting problem just on 1150`s or is it both 1100 and 1150 `s , off on a trip to italy in a few weeks time and dont want to arrive with back end of my bike trailing thru french toll roads ,also are these exhausts compatible with system panniers likewise not keen on burning a hole thru , any info regards these issues would be helpfull thanks in advance buzzy

just my 2cents but the remus can be loud and annoying on long journeys.

Can't help with your query though.

i think that i will be ok with the noise , every bike that i have owned i have swopped the standard exhaust for a race , curently running a m900 with opem termis and a ktm 950 with akros . just more worried regards the melting issues with system panniers , number plates can be replaced cheep as! but losing half my luggage would be a problem , many thanks for the quick responce tho :)

For the 850 / 1100 there's two options, a straight though pipe OR pipe with a box either of which connects to the Remus silencer. So you need to know which system some might say is too loud, or possibly has adverse affects, before you base any decision on their opinions.

BTW on standard 1150's ie no y-piece, no aftermarket can, I've not heard of there being any of the problems that occur when fitting either, or both of the mentioned bits ;)

ok thanks John , its a straight pipe no box and a remus grand prix , i presume without a baffle , should be getting my hands on it this week so have a few days to try it out with the panniers before the long haul to italy , many thanks for the reply

The straight pipe option is thought by some to be a bit loud :comfort I've just bough a Grand Prix silencer and it doesn't have the option of removing the baffle. Remus etc did do an extra for bolting onto the end of their silencers to try and reduce the possibility of damage.

yeah ive found that item thru touratech £ 35 , ok so the grand prix that you bought has the baffles in and these cant be removed , ok so its a possiblity that ive have just bought the same system that you have , the vendor states that it is louder that stock with a deep rumble , its just what im after tbh , ive also seen here on this site that it may clean up the surging which will also be a bonus i guess , tbh John what im really after is a better sound , i just hope that its not gonna cause too many other issues which i will have to put up with ie melting stuff , noise i can live with , and if i cant and find it too much back to stock

I have a Remus Revolution without the box and it has been fine. No melting issues, and didn`t know there had been issues with them. Done Scotland twice and as long as you wear ear plugs it is fine, sounds a bit like a Lancaster bomber!

yes!!! thanks Mark , thats just what i wanted to hear , it should be arriving this week and will get spannering fot the weekend , i had a week up in the highlands , bl*** dy fantastic roads , but love to get over to europe when i can , france spain italy holland belgium its all good , the trip starts with either a ferry or train and thats when i feel that the holiday is getting going , love it and love my 1100

I wouldn't go for a loud pipe, just before a journey of that length.

I said, "I WOULDN'T GO FOR A LOUD PIPE, JUST BEFORE A JOURNEY OF THAT LENGTH...."

Straight through, with Wunderlich headers and Remus Revolution with baffle, aopparently sounds a bit like a Spitfire:thumb2

Don't use ear plugs for chugging around here, but certainly use them "on tour"

No problem with melting panniers or number plates even on 400 mile days at (lets call it) Motorway speeds.

thanks beak freak i did have worries but they have been laid to rest with all the replies so far , have a weekend b4 i leave so get the pipe on and have a bimble about to check it out , keep checking the pannier and plate , and even tho im getting on a bit still like the sound of a fruity exhaust note nowt too loud :augie , q how do hd riders get away with the slash cut pipes that they tend to use ??? beats me :nenau
