Hooray, after a bit of fannying about managed to pick up a secondhand new set of remus header pipes for my 2004 gs today. I drove up to Leicester to pick them up from a very nice guy this morning and fitted them this afternoon.

The fitting.
Firstly, these Remus people really know what they are doing. The fit of the new headers on my bike is EXACT. For something that is mass manufactured the quality, fit and finish is way above My expectations. Everything was supplied (including new seals for the pipes AND oxygen sensors. One of the old oxy sensors was a bit tough coming out (found the thread to be less than perfect), but a 22mm ring spanner, WD40 and a deadblow hammer sorted that out fine. Everything lined up perfectly and it was obvious how it all went together, even for a numpty like me.

The sound.
Again, firstly, if anyone knows my neigbours can you apologise to them for me. They won't speak to me at the moment. But come on, you have to run the bike with just the headers, even if only for a few minutes.........a few times.........(I'd have to admit it is a little bit too loud that way, but I'd love to take it out for a run with no can :D )
With the standard BMW can in place the sound is a bit louder than before at low revs or throttle openings, but a LOT louder at full throttle openings ( especially third and fourth gear, flat out, overtaking a scoobydoo :D:D:D) Bimbling about under bridges and through villages the sound is not much louder but it is deeper and much "rounder".

There was something I didn't like very much. When I first looked at the pipes they were a strange silvery, steely colour. They even looked like this after I had fitted them, which was really worrying. However, I'm pleased to say that following a run to the local petrol station 15 miles away and back they have changed into the correct golden browny colour I expected. Some people say that they should be a bit blue at the tops, but I thought that was only on revvy 4 cylinder bikes.

Conclusion.
Top quality bit of kit, better sound than stock, much lighter, maybe better power delivery (not really bothered, it's fine as it is). Yes, a Remus can WILL follow because I want to feel younger and more rebellious than I really am :o

Ah a coal villian! haha

Im originally from Ashby and thats where most of my bikes are stored. I dont think i could squeeze the gs through the door of my flat in leicester haha. (i would try but the mrs would kill me!)

Have to pop out for a ride matey if your up for it? What are you on at the minute then?

So, who outbid me on the can, and how did you manage to do it in the final 2 seconds? :spitfire

Only joking, good luck to you. I was really after a cheaper, scruffier one anyway. :)
