If any of you chappys have or are thinking of getting a black Remus Powercone, think carefully about it.

Mine's been on most of the winter and has been through salt and all the other crap on the road but the bike has been regularly washed but with a good covering of AFC50 on most parts. It had a proper clean down about 4 weeks ago and has been washed a few times since.

After being caught out in a downpour yesterday evening i decided to wash my bike, and using a gentle spray on the exhaust the paint has started to come away. I am not a happy chappy :(

If i'd been using the spray at full tilt 2" away i would have understood, but i'm very carefull using them on bikes and have had no problem in the past over the years.

So it'll be an email to Remus later on. But if there not forthcoming about a repair or replacement whats the best way to sort that out?

Strip it all off and polish, as i don't fancy a dodgy spray job with heat resistant spray or is there something else that can be done?

don't shoot the messenger

Hi
I looked at the photos before reading your text and the first thing that went through my mind was ' Look at that, somebody has been using a pressure washer up to close!!' What compounds your situation is that if the paint finish was sub-standard then it would have fallen off on the other side first as it is exposed to higher levels of abrasive weather / road pick up.

As I said, don't shoot the messenger, but I would be interested to hear what the manufacturer has to say.

Cheers

Erm, i think your thinking i'm using an a karcher type electric/petrol driven one. This pressure sprayer, of which i've just taken a quick photo of and attached, is pressurised using the hand pump, after a gallon of lager i could probably piss harder.

I should have made it clearer in my OP.

Nowt wrong with pressure washers, like any tool they require a level of competence for satisfactory results.

Perhaps the buffoons are the ones who don't know what (not) to point them at?

ouch

OK hardly what you would see on a farm or a boat yard, however we used one of these as homemade shower when we lived on a boat and boy it hurt if you got it too close to your skin. Point taken though, it shouldn't really wash the paint off. Good luck with your claim. By the way, how does it sound?

Really good a sending water deep into wiring, bearings, seals, also good at getting behind stone chips and lifting paint, just a lazy mans tool really, any thing more than a garden hose with your thumb on the end is asking for trouble in the future, dealers will use anything to make the job easier/quicker they have no love for your bike its just another like the last, then later they will smile and sell you wheel bearings when yours run dry and fail.

Really good at cleaning things too! As you rightly point they are capable of forcing water into electrics and past seals (arf arf) etc. so armed with that knowledge why would you point it closely at said items? Doh!!!:blast

Looks like a sub standard paint finish TBH.
Due to many 'green' issues, paint is now undergoing a change, i believe it has to be water based pretty soon. looks as if Remus are in there first. that could be the problem.

as was said earlier ... ceramic coating would be good, and ythey do it in loads of colours as well. if its good enough for a race cars mainold, it'll be fine on the exhaust back box.

!! How that would be done i don't know --- you have to take the packing out first i suppose.

Since i got no joy from Mr Remus, thats an excellent link.

Many thanks :beerjug:
