renewing a .com that has expired

a mate of mine forgot/did not renew his domain name.

I know who it is registered with and it is marked up as redemption period.

I've emailed them saying we would like to renew it and had no reply.

The .COM at the moment is unpaid for but I can't rebuy or reregister it..


Anyone know what he could do to get it back before it turns into a porn site.

(standard practice these days for non renwed .com)

They will generally only reply to the registered email address of the domain registrant.

Who's it registered with? Does your mate not have a login for his acount with them?

Its registered through web-mania but they use another company to do their registering onlinenic.
Web mania say its too late and they can do nowt.
Onlinenic don't reply so I don't know.

If I remember the email address used via web-mania to register was mine. But Online Nic don't know me and web mania say its too late.

No big deal for me, but my mate would like to keep his original address..

PM'd ya back. Looks like Web-Mania are at fault for not renewing, or at least not reminding your mate that it needed renewal. If they registered it for you, then they should have been responsible for notification.

That's the trouble with cheap web hosts.....
