Repairing stone clip on headlight glass

This is a classic 'horse, stable door' thing.

I bought a TT Headlight protector at the bike show and it arrived today! But some time this week I've got a stone chip in the dipped part of the headlight

The chip hasn't gone all the way through (AFAICS) and of course bike insurance (well not mine at least) doesn't cover stone chips.

Autoglass want ~£70 to repair it.

So, the questions are is it worth it, anyone tried a 'DIY solution' or would you just leave it (the chip is a ragged 4-5 mm round)

Errm (I'm being a bit thick here)- I see the principal but the headlight's vertical - do you apply a little bit at a time to stop it running ?


Then how do you get it smooth/flush? Brasso/toothpaste, like getting scratches out of perspex???

i repaired my transalp by putting sellotape o the in side of the lens an building it up in 3 goes, once dried you could sand it but i left mine.

I had the same problem but in my case the shard of glass was inside the lamp so I glue it back in place using Superglue type Glass adhesive, and this passed a MOT, as mentioned in the post and as I found out as long as it doesn't affect the beam pattern and is sealed, it's not a MOT failure.

If you take the lamp out it will be easier to work on.

Car accessory shops sell a windscreen repair kit, gin clear epoxy and tape plus instructions, if you dont let the epoxy cure fully before you trim it it cuts easily with a razor blade or similar.
