i keep recieving emails from people i dont know due to a mates computor getin a virus its gone to his address book and have just recieved another 58 same messages any ideas how to stop it:confused:

Those people all probably have viruses too. Make sure you have a good virus scanner (pay cash, it's worth it), and keep it updated. This won't stop the e-mails being sent, but it'll stop you from being infected, and sending e-mails yourself.

and stick mailwasher on your PC to delete the spam on your ISP's server.

the right configuration of mailwasher will detect & delete 95% of your spam.

Mailwasher will also bounce the junk mail so it appears your email address is dead. It reduced my spam count by 75% in 2 weeks.

Top virus scanner - AVG available from www.grisoft.com free to downlaod and is excellent

ALSO get Zone alarm firewall. Do not rely on windoze. Its also free and available from www.zonealarm.com

there is a school of thought that says bouncing mail is a bad idea. it's not as if the spammers take any notice of it coming back & alter their address lists after all.

at the very least it doubles the spam clogging up the net & you get nothing out of it but a bit of satisfaction.

If it really is a problem and the subject of the message is the same every time then you can setup a filter in your mail client to delete it. That way you never see it again.
