Hi All,

Have a '03 R11150gs. As a result of some recent prolonged commitments (getting married, honeymoon :thumb2, then getting snowed in) the battery has gone flat and is holding a charge poorly.

Can anyone please tell me:

1. A part no for a Bosch or Varta etc replacement battery for my bike (BMW stealers quoting astro-dollars) that won't involve having to re-model the bike to fit it.

2. Were I'd get one of 'em charger deallys (excuse the technical terms) that you plug into your power socket to keep a battery alive during prolonged storage?

Any help appreciated!

Batteries :
BMW are not always very expensive so enquire if you have not done already.
Some of our site sponsors sell them. Take a look at the adverts at top of page. i.e James Sherlock, NN, Motorworks etc.

Charger :
If I was going to buy another one I would probably go for a Ctek. There are various sorts so go to their website and see what fits your use i.e. bike, car, van, caravan, lorry etc.

Charger plug :
You need the Hella type, which again, some of our site sponsors sell.

Hope this helps.

odyssey 535 is ok for all of my friends with 1150gs, for over 5 years

ctek mxs3600 is a smart battery tender and it's ok for most gell and agm batteries, for maintance according to the technical department of ctek

Varta number 519 013 017
DIN number 519 13
One vote for CTEK 3600 Charger. It's very good.
You can even charge car batteries with it.

Charger plug is DIN 12 mm.
You can get it in all car part shops.

Thanks Lads,

I'll get the charger business lined up before I change batteries.

I saw a Ctek charger on the NN site but the blurb stated that it was NOT for use with the accessory port.
If I were to buy the CTEK 3600, can I fit the suggested DIN 12mm plug and work away through the accessory port?

Yes you can with your R1150GS.

R1200GS has CAN wiring which is closing the accessory port after some minutes after stopping the engine.

Fortunately your bike and R1100 and R850 still have "oldfashioned" wires which can delivery current to the battery allways.
