I've got a 2004 F650 GS (this is my first bike as i just passed my test 2 months ago and loving it) which has heated grips, i'm wanting to replace them as they are worn through. Can i just replace the rubber without replacing the whole thing?

I think the grips are the same as the 1150. If so it can be done with patience and a can of hairspray (no joke).

I did this to my 1150 a while back and you have to cut away the old grips very carefully and spray lots of hairspray into the grips then push em on. You will need 2 throttle grips though not a left and a right one due to the size of the heating element.

There is a thread somewhere ref the 1150.

ps is doesn't matter what hairspray so but a cheap can of tescos own, no need for the Treseme stuff unless your bike is pink :D:D:D

Grips

If the Heated Grips were "Factory Fitted", ie. in the original spec of the bike, then the wiring runs through the bars & the connector goes down into the main loom.

This make changing the grips a fairly major pain, & a 1.5 to 2 hour job.

:spitfire

3/4 of an hour to change the rubbers only as the wiring doesn't get in the way and it can all be done whilst attached to the bike :thumb
