replacement grips

I've got a 2004 F650 GS (this is my first bike as i just passed my test 2 months ago and loving it) which has heated grips, i'm wanting to replace them as they are worn through. Can i just replace the rubber without replacing the whole thing?

I think the grips are the same as the 1150. If so it can be done with patience and a can of hairspray (no joke).

I did this to my 1150 a while back and you have to cut away the old grips very carefully and spray lots of hairspray into the grips then push em on. You will need 2 throttle grips though not a left and a right one due to the size of the heating element.

ps is doesn't matter what hairspray so but a cheap can of s own, no need for the Treseme stuff unless your bike is pink

Grips

If the Heated Grips were "Factory Fitted", ie. in the original spec of the bike, then the wiring runs through the bars & the connector goes down into the main loom.

This make changing the grips a fairly major pain, & a 1.5 to 2 hour job.

3/4 of an hour to change the rubbers only as the wiring doesn't get in the way and it can all be done whilst attached to the bike
