Hi everyone,
I am considering changing my shocks, what are the lengths of the standard shock? Or, what length of shock should I look for?
I want to keep the normal ride height, just get a better shock - a mate has Ohlins on his GS and it is the same year as mine and the ride comfort is amazing compared to my stock suspension.
And there is Wilbers.
Those are probly the only 2 I'd consider.
Thanks
Peter

I am also deciding on new shocks. Have you searched this forum? :hide

Loads of info on brands that get good reviews; Ohlins, Wilbers, Hyperpro, Nitron, Maxton, WP etc. Some are happy with Hagon.

Why would you want to change the length of the shock from standard or do you need lowered shocks? This keeps standard seat option.

GSA shocks are longer but you have to consider need to change stands.

If I had the cash I would go to Maxton for a bespoke set up. Buying British.

My own shocks are fine so I am considering a spring upgrade for now and the Hyperpro is a good value option according to some on here.

Just tell your chosen supplier what bike you have and they will do the rest.

I've got Ohlins on mine and they are fantastic. Got mine from Kais in Manchester www.kais-performance.com and can recommend them:thumb

Thanks for this. I DON'T want to change my shock length, so I want to know what the lengths of the standard shock are and the GSA so I know what I am looking at when I get replacements. I am happy with the standard height.

As I mentioned in my post, speak to any of the suppliers and they will know the right shock to supply:thumb

Maxtons aren't far from you either. Have a ride over & discuss; they have a well earned reputation for quality.

Ohlins

I fitted Ohlins for a GSA to my 05 GS. It makes the bike slightly taller. The back wheel just touches the road when it's on the centre stand. The side stand is too short and is easily modded with an ice hockey puck. Had them on all summer with no problems with the additional height. The handling is like night and day. I previously had an 09 GSA with ESA. This would run rings around it. It steers exactly where you want it to go, holds a line perfectly and speed humps do not exist in my world. Rough surfaces are not even noticeable. I have never had a bike where I have more confidence in the front end.

You hear about Ohlins being so much better. I took this with a big pinch of salt. They are better than I could ever imagined, and the best mod I have ever had on any bike. (There have been many!) I got mine from eBay at a bargain price. Hence the GSA fitment. If you can get the right shocks for the right bike it saves some hassle.

Can't recommend them highly enough. The best bit is if you can source them 2nd hand, they are completely rebuildable and you can get wheat you paid for them when you sell your bike. They are like money in the bank.

Highly recommended

Steve, can you tell me what your set-up is: preload and rebound damping front and rear?
Many thanks
Peter
