When I bought my GS it had a smoked puig screen fitted ( see 'Image 1' below). The thing is that when riding the bike there's a fair bit of buffeting hitting me on the upper chest/shoulders area, so I'm looking to replace it.

Anyone got experience with the Dakar screen (see 'Image 2' below) on a GS, or other screens they'd also recommend which reduces the buffeting?

TIA :thumb2

-Andy.

Replacing a Puig screen

.... but with what.

How do MScotts, the second photo does not show for me it`s just a red x :(

I was wondering if you have seen the Z Technik screens on fleebay. I have just bought one from them though I have to fit it tomorrow and see what the differance is. The item number if it`s still available > 150396785208
I rang the number on the Custom Cruisers UK Motorcycle Parts website and got through to Mike less than a week ago. It arrived today. You will pay less than what fleebay advert is stating that way.

So ... till tomorrow and in the late evening i`ll get to tell you what I think.

Replacing a Puig screen ...

with what though?

My ride upto The Lakes early Tuesday morning to test the new Z-Technik screen. I had this thought when I fitted the screen that it would not make a lot of difference. The mirror stems do not get in the way as I was dreading that, very easy to fit if you have the U or V-shaped plastic thing that sits behind the Dakar screen.

I should make a point that this is my first ride-out since last November, because of the weather, salted roads and work had got in the way till now.
I usually have my ear-plugs in to lessen the noise of my Caberg Justissimo GT, I don`t like riding too long with the racket it makes. On Tuesday morning there was very little wind and thought i`d get a better feel of any difference without ear-plugs. There was a marked difference :)
I still had a fair blast of turbulence on the top of my shoulders and my arms though. I found it bearable for an hour and a half without thinking I should get my ear-plugs in.

With the old Dakar screen i`d be almost crouching down behind, a bit uncomfortable, then sit back up straight as my lower back started complaning of my bad posture. The Dakar screen is OK upto 60mph, it`s naff at 70mph, crap at 80mph. OK again at 85mph.

I found myself doing a little above the speed limit on more than one occasion, as this new screen works at all speeds :D.

Nuff said, Dakarnoway.

Good to hear some positive thoughts this screen - did you get the very tall screen they sell or the regular height one?

Screen ...

siwhite :)

What would be the difference between the very tall one and the regular one in Imperial or Metric ? I can`t measure mine at the moment but I would be interested if you know.

Cheers Dakarnoway

They list two sizes on he US site but Custom Cruisers only sell the tall on it seems. I ordered one yesterday on the back of your positive review - should arrive today with luck. I'm not troubled by much buffeting from the Dakar screen but the wind noise is incredible!

Cheers for the feedback, especially from Dakaronway :thumb2

In the main I'm only doing commute-miles on the bike (26 each way), so will look out for a Dakar screen as there's a marked difference in size to that of the Puig screen fitted (as-per the piccie in my OP ^).

Earlier in the week I phoned Yvonne at Motorworks to see if they had one, and although they don't she put me down for the next Dakar that comes in with a (decent) screen; £35 all in. What I'll do in the meantime is bung up a Wanted thread on here to see if folks have a (3-hole) Dakar screen going spare they want to flog...

cheers again!

Screen ...

Yeah MScotts your second photo shows the original F650 GS Dakar screen.

I wanted to get a different screen to the original F650 Dakar screen as my height (6`1") and the miles I do on my trips abroad (3800 miles last September) is becoming a bit of a chore. Or maybe because i`m getting old. :rob

The Z-Technik screen I saw on flee-bay looks like something that will do the job. Now the photo, I think, has been tweeked to look higher than it is when delivered :augie but i`d paid me money and thought i`d better give it a go before I complained ... It`s great and does the job of making me comfortable at any speed. Not sure about side-winds as I ain`t tried it in any. There was a very little breeze on Tuesday, well if any, it works a treat.
Another thought now is to darken the screen, get a film of something to put on the back/inside of the screen and bring my Dakar looking similar to the stealth look :P but I have not done the search for that as yet.

Anyone got any ideas on that :augie ?

Cheers ... Dakar NO way (Dakanoway) I`ve got a Dakar but no way would I do it :comfort

Screen for F650 GS

Just a quick note ...

I have just contacted the Ztechnik team and enquired if the screen that you`ve sent me is the one on an advert on fleebay.
The number in the photo (top left) is the screen we`ve sent you ...
I thought it looked slightly photo-shopped as it does look a slightly taller screen to the one I have delivered, and I mentioned so.
I paid a little less than advertised on fleebay and maybe this is not the screen I thought I was getting.

Ah!!! but the new screen works for me, it`s not stopping all the wind coming over my head but it`s better than as I expected it would be, if you see what I mean.
