Replacing a R1200 GSA speedometer

Has anyone got any experience of this - specifically changing the speedo for a second hand (used) unit.
The problem I have is that in order to import my GSA into the UK, I need a speedo with MPH (this one only has KMH). I have managed to source a second-hand unit from the breakers, but to fit it, I believe that it needs to be programmed using software from BMW. My local agent seems think that programming a NEW replacement unit is difficult, but programming a USED unit is just something they seem unwilling to do.
I am very reluctant to spend £500 on a new unit.. Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be done? Can I maybe just put on stickers ontop of the clear plastic cover to pass the conformity test?

thanks....

Anyone know of a dealer that will program a used speedometer?

Please help!!

i was speaking to CWs about this a couple of weeks ago for a mate. they were aware that it needed to go on the G1, didn't say they wouldn't do it :nenau

Buy a bicycle speedo from Halfords and you'll have a legal bike, then you can sort out the problem at your leisure :thumb2

That's the cheapest option.:thumb2

A friend has a trackbike, which he runs on the road with a day time MOT. A simple sensor on the front wheel sends a signal to the speedo. It sails through MOTs. Take a bit of care though. You may, I'm not sure, need to take the bike a Government approved Type Approval Centre, where they can be very snotty. Good luck.

My understanding is that it can be easily done. I live in the US and wanted the external air temp to be in C and not F - easy - they plugged in and all the parameters came up on their screen. From what I could see it was possible to change everything with just a few clicks.

It's not the fact the odometer is in Km's but the speedo face, the Euro versions don't have both on them like the UK ones, if you've got a second hand unit just swop the faces from the speedo, if you don't want to do that start looking at companies such as redial etc that will custom fit a dial of your design, had one fitted on a ZX9r a few years ago from a place called superdials, you'll have to send them your clocks so that they can make a template if your the first GS they've done, don't think having the odometer in Km's is gonna bother you to much unless you try and pass the bike off as a UK bike on resale and anyone with any sense will see on the V5 it's a personal import anyway. Good luck :thumb2
