I have a 2002 GSA and the handlebars need replacing due to being bent.

I have been looking through the GS service manual but the handlebar setup looks different???? my bars at the bend, appear to have a metal tubular 'sleeve' with a nut and bolt fastening it to the main bars, i have managed to remove the main plastic master cylinders and i am now just left with the heated grips.

I have traced the wiring for the heated grips back to a connector where both the left and right wiring meets but the block connects both wires.

My questions are

1) how do i rethread the heated grips into the new bars without cutting the wires ( or do i need to cut them?)

2) the tubular sleeve does that need to come off in order to take the heated grips off?

3) because the bars are bent the sleeve does not just pull off. should it pull off or is there another secret knack to removing them?

cheers:nenau

The heated grips are detachable. Undo the two screws that hold the L/H grip in place.

Unplug the grip electric connection and then unclip/detatch the wiring from the plug/socket.
Two types are fitted, one is a white rectangular connector with all 4 wires connecting, the other is two seperate two wire plugs. Basically the same procedure for both, small pick bend locating tabs back and they pull out.

Then pull the grips off the bar ends.

The tubular ends you mention are part of the bars, Just look on your replacement bars to see.

Thanks again for your assistance :) my new bars aren't here yet to compare i was just removing the old ones in preparation - got the grips off though now :)
