Response from Garmin re Proximity alarms on 2610

I said:
"I would like proximity alarms on my unit. Will they be included in a software release soon?"

They said:
"It is unlikely that this feature will be added to the StreetPilot because this is a feature that is inherent in our marine units. The closest unit that does this is the GPSMAP 276C that offers voice auto routing."

Most Garmin units have 10 proximity alarms

The GPSmap 176C has 50 alarms.
Recently they added 100 alarms to the GPSmap 276C.

Requests for additional proximity alarms came from road users and Garmin is aware of the main usage.

telling the unit to warn the user (audibly or visually) when within a set proximity of nominated Way Points.

It seems this is appropriate on Marine units but not road based ones....

Think they would feel they were standing on Geodysys or however you spell it's toes. Because that is essentially what their unit does to alert you to Static speed cameras and accident blackspots.
