Restoring Mac Time Machine files and folders to a non Mac

Is it possible? I was going to have a go, but thought I'd check in first. I've lots of audio files on a Mac Mini which are backed up to an SSD hard drive attached to it by a USB cable thing. I also have an older HP desktop on which I'm trying out Linux Mint, so thought it would be an extra safety step to copy the files across.

Is it as simple as plugging in the SSD to the HP and transferring the files in a file manager?

Thanks, so as there's little spare space on my MacBook, just 50Gb spare, maybe best just to use a bigger USB stick to transfer files in batches. Cheers
