Rev it summer kit

Hi Folks

Heading off to Spain again this summer and thinking of getting some cooler clobber. I wore my Hein Gericke goretex jacket and trousers last year which were ok, but when it got above 30 degrees and I wasn't doing high speed I started melting!
Just wondering if anyone has tried the Rev it Tornado jacket (the one that's mainly vents) or the Horizon (the one with opening chest-flaps)??
I'll be mainly in the north and pyrenees so I still need to be rainproof.
Or does anyone have any other suggestions for cool, waterproof gear?

I think Alpinestars do one which is more biased to having rain repellant properties as well as the mesh cooling....think it was pricey though.

I've often thought of ditching the conventional jackets for an 'air' type jacket which would be better suited to the hotter conditions when you get to your destination......but always worried about getting cold and wet during the trip down....the Alpinstars one was the closest I've seen to really think about giving it a try.

Perfect for hot days with zipped vents front and back.

As well as a jacket with vents don't ignore what you're wearing underneath.

Cotton t-shirts are no where near as good as a 'technical' type top that wicks away sweat, allows it to evaporate and thus keeps you cool, they really work.

Almost, as good as the above are Merino wool tops (and what I use) - they have the added advantage that unlike tech tops that get really pongy after a days riding Merino wool has a natural summit or other in it that stops it smelling.

Another top tip is a bandanna/scarf type thing soaked in water and tied around your neck.

Cheers for the advice guys. I think it's one of those things where you have to get some sort of compromise which suits you best, so I'm gonna buy one and see how I get on. I'll report back on it once I'm home.

I've got a Rev'it jacket, not sure which one, but I bought it for much the same reasons as you - lots of ventilation. I've been very satisfied with it, we'll thought out design and good quality.

Check out the German websites like FC-moto.de and save yourself a packet.

I use BMW Trailguard jacket & trousers.

Bought 'em cheap from this sites for sale section.

Loads of ventilation, loads of pockets, liners for warmth and wet showers, with BMW C-Change waterproof over jacket & trousers for when it pisses down, sorted

I use the Klim traverse, big vents so very cool. Goretex for when the temp drops or the rain appears. I use it all year round for commuting and trail riding.

Just wear t-shirt and shorts like everyone else in Spain

It's impossible to stay cool in a waterproof jacket in warm temperatures.
Don't even try. Go for non waterproof vented gear and pop a lightweight waterproof jacket and trousers over the top when it rains.
I've toured Europe in sweltering summer heat and been very comfortable in my Hein Gericke Tuareg jacket. It is the older totally non waterproof one with vent zips and covered mesh patches on the chest arms and back. I also use a non waterproof Dianese cordura trouser with mesh panels on the upper thighs that are exposed when you unzip the flaps. I use a very lightweight Montane Event waterproof jacket and Rab Event over trousers. My boots are non waterproof leather and I pop light waterproof over boots on if it pisses. The same with my gloves. Lots of vents in the fingers and palms and over mitt if it rains.
I have been in the outdoor trade for the last 20 years and know the limitations, and advantages of waterproof breathable materials. I have to say the bike trade is light years behind when it comes to these things.
Separate vented and waterproof kit is the way to go. You also have a separate light waterproof jacket to wear when you are off the bike too.
