I'm just doing a route up through the Dales and found this interesting little shortcut on google ... but my Mapsource V9 doesn't have a complete route. I suspect it's a gravel track / restricted - can I take it with my GSA? :D

Riddlesden to Ilkley

If it's the road I'm thinking of it's paved and yes, no problems at all on my GSA. Steep climb but nothing too dramatic :thumb

Edit to the above..

Just checked the OS map and I'm not sure it's the same road. I can go out and check it out for you if you want:thumb

Cor!

Cor POG that's a quick reply!

I'm going to be geared up - and don't want anything challanging ... just looked a bit interesting ...

Jason there is a road from Riddlesden over to Ilkley through something called Keighley Gate (near tv masts and radio repeaters etc) Literally a gate. On the Riddlesden side no problems but unless the bit down into Ilkley has been repaired it's deep rutted though dry hardcore and sandstone road for about 3/4 mile

I'd let go have a go first before trying it. Also, that might get him off here for a few minutes! :thumb

Keiyhley gate as just been repaired several months ago, council have been back up & put tall kerbs back across to divert water of.Just keep an eye out for them & slow down.

Assessment

Don't say I'm not good to you :augie

Find your way onto the Ilkley Road (if you need directions, PM me)

Climb up on paved road out of Riddlesden and onto the Moor

Until you get to the radio masts, where you'll need to get off and open the gate

Sign says no offroading, but there's a nice road :augie

Remember to shut the gate ;)

Before the easy and not-too-steep descent on gravel. Watch out for the concrete kerbs - you can see them in loads of time, but some of them are quite high. Some kind wee soul has been building wee ramps onto them, but not all

All too soon, you're back down the other side to tarmac roads, civilisation and traffic:eek:

I did it twos up on a GSA with bald Anakees and it was only just mildly challenging.

So absolutely no problems on a loaded bike :thumb

Watch out for the kerbs tho, some are high... approach slowly and in a straight line and bump over them.

Hope this helps :thumb

Thanks!

POG,

Thanks very much -to you and your pillion for going and taking a look and posting the pictures. :clap

Certainly looks doable - and I'll be on slightly worn Tourances which should be not probably at all!

Eh up Pog, looks a shed load better than the last time I was there. So that's where all the council tax in Bradford has gone!!

Yes, but some of the kerbs are well high (look at the first pic in post #12)

It's no problem on road tyres :augie I was interested so I went for a look-see because on the map it shows that the road ends up there. :thumb

Well...

I do believe there are rules against about baht'at whilst on a motorcycle :augie

... also probably rules against being too much a tourist!

Enjoy your trip up to our neck of the woods :thumb

I live in the next village up from Ilkley (Burley) and yes that road is easily done. Walked it a few times, never ridden it - think this might be a good excuse to get some fish and chips in, go for some light off roading and sit on top of the moors and scoff!!
