This may be an insight to those who have experienced some unexplained issues....

The widespread use of illegal GPS jamming devices on UK roads has been revealed in a new study that highlights the potential risks to critical systems the activity poses.

The 24-month Sentinel project deployed specially developed GPS interference probes to detect parts of the UK where GPS signals suffered interference – either from natural sources or deliberate jamming.

 Initial findings using six months' data from 20 probes suggests that between 50 and 450 incidents of deliberate jamming take place every day across the UK.

Thats more than a little scary when you consider the airport and flight implications!

not really, its only about 10 years ago (on our fleet anyway) when GPS became a major navigational aid.. its still the traditional DBI and VHF stations as waypoints.

GPS can be totally inop and not have a big impact on navigation

In Alaska are they not already operating LNAV/VNAV arrivals and approaches that use GPS sensors to achieve the required RNP? Must be coming to Europe soon. Policing the use of these commercial jammers will be a nightmare - perhaps impossible
