Can anyone give any advice on a good road tyre for a gs 1150 road use only thanks

Black an round ones are good.

;)

Good for grip or mileage or cost or ....

Try lookin at conti's trail attacks. Bloody awesome road tyre.

I asked the same question on here before getting new road tyres. That question too brought out the comedians! At least you have not had people telling you that you should not fit road tyres to a GS.

I have run my 1150 on road tyres for most of it's life. I ended up with Michelin Road Pilot 3's. I found they hardly needed scrubbing in and made the bike turn quicker than the Bridgestones previously fitted. The appear to grip very well and give me lots of confidence. Everyone says they are fantastic in the rain but since fitting in early May I have not had much chance to try them in the wet.

I suspect that most modern tyres would be fine, the differences being like magazine road tests of sports bikes, only marginal. Most of us don't ride hard enough to test tyres to the limit, for me it's the confidence that matters. Most tyres will grip and get you around a corner but it's having confidence in them that allows us to avoid that unexpected obstacle.

For info I ran Dunlop Roadsmarts on my 1200. Although cornering grip was tremendous I had a straight line weave at around 70mph and upward. I put this down to the tyre not handling the weight and became unstable. While it didn't bother me it scared the hell out of my buddy when he had a try.

I ran mine or Michelin Pilot Road (1) for years and they are a very good and cheap tyre. Road Smarts are very good and I run my Kat on Continental Road Attacks and they are doing well

Not cheap but Michelin Road Pilot 3 are awesome in the wet and dry.

The pr3 are expensive but last a long time. They really were a huge improvement over the standard tourance's.

Never Post in the wee small hours??
Seriously, I love Michelin Pilot 3, and currently running on Conti Road Attacks - variety is the spice of life. Spend not much on tyres and thats what you get. Spend top dollar for the right result. (Bridgstone T30 on the Blade - if its good enough for Ron H.........)

Just been out on my recently fitted Conti Trail Attacks, awesome.

Far better than Tourance and Anakees, IMO.

Realistically any half decent road tyre will be an improvement over semi trail tyres, the bike will feel smoother and the suspension more compliant

I ran a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts on my 1150. Brilliant grip but they didn't last anything like as long as a set of Tourance Mk1's.

The bike also tended to fall into low speed corners but you soon get used to it.

Thanks for the replies I think I will definitely get some round black ones but will go for grip not mileage

Out of curiosity I've just been out to check my tyres, Conti 'Trail Attacks', fitted on 4 August 2012, with mileage at 30702.

Current mileage is 38374. The rear still has ~3-4mm in the centre of the tread, with no significant sign of squaring off. The front has ~2-3mm in the centre.

I've never had anything like loss of grip with these tyres, wet or dry, although the rear did feel a bit squidgy a few months back, probably due to 15lb psi pressure.:.:eek I usually run 36 F/42 R.

Only problem I have noticed with these tyres is that the 'Chicken Strip' wears out rapidly. Only about 3/8 in left each side on the front, and the rear, where it can be detected, is a max 1/4 in left. But I can put up with that...:D

Just noticed I can get 'Road Attack 2' to fit the GS, might give those a try when replacement time rolls round.
